‘Winter Tales’ represents the very best known and liked of Kenneth’s short stories from over 20 years of writing. Several of the stories have been broadcast on BBC Radio; many have been published either at home or abroad. Two have been short-listed for major literary awards. The stories themselves are from different corners of the world: from a traveller family in Ireland, the young sons of Sicilians settling in New York, and a boy making sense of the world amid the appalling bullying of his Scottish school. They are all about moments of intensity in people’s lives; moments of terrible transition or enlightenment. They are about turning points.
