Neil Gunn’s probably my favourite author, and Highland River is arguably his finest book. Here he describes the journey to the river’s source, a lochan in the hills. Often there are tiny beaches at these lochs. So this is set high up in Caithness, the top right hand corner of mainland Scotland.
